Interior Inspiration

May 2011

We’ve been known to sometimes (only sometimes) go off our usual fashion track in search of additional inspiration. Leaving the shoes and skinnies aside for a bit we came across this vibrant interior post on Design Sponge (www.designspongeonline.com) and just had to share! The average South African is usually quite modest and reserved when it comes to interior design – we very rarely take risks and paint a wall pink or stick wallpaper in our bathrooms. This is why we wanted to show you this home – it’s so colourful, light and free and truly captures the spirit of the owners without making things too complicated.

This home belongs to a Finnish illustrator Jutta (obviously) and her husband. The post on Design Sponge (www.designspongeonline.com/2011/04/sneak-peek-jutta-rikola.html) introduces them and says “We peeked into Jutta’s home two years ago, and since then, the couple has done a lot of work! As only the second owners, it has been important to them that they respect the history of the house — so much so that they even made their own wallpaper paste by boiling wheat flour and water! Their plans for the space include a complete kitchen renovation, but in the meantime, they’ve made a bright, happy home.”

This bright and happy home has inspired us to really think about how we translate our personal style into what our homes say about us! So go ahead, paint a cloud on your kitchen cabinet and let go of any interior restrictions.
